CATE Quick-Search Query Syntax
The search facility within CATE is a keyword search similar to that found in search engines such as Google. The quick search searches the names of accepted taxa only. It is not case sensitive.
To search for all taxa with a uninomial, specific, or infaspecific epithet, enter a single term. Entering two terms will return all accepted taxa which have names which match one or both terms.
To search for two terms, use the word AND (boolean and), for example
Acherontia AND atropos
or use the + symbol to indicate that a term must be present
+Acherontia atropos
You can enclose two or more terms to indicate that the terms should appear in a certain order, for example
"Arum italicum"
You can also use wildcards to indicate any one character (?) or multiple characters (*), for example
"Arum a*"
Except at the beginning of a query
"*rum"
Back.
