Distinguishing Features
Submerged or emergent aquatics, helophytes or facultative rheophytes; leaf blade linear to ovate or cordate; spathe tube with connate margins; spadix entirely enclosed in the spathe tube; flowers unisexual, perigone absent; anther thecae horned. Differs from Lagenandra in female zone of single whorl of connate flowers, upper spathe margins mostly connate into a tube (except Cryptocoryne spiralis), berries connate into a syncarp that opens from the apex, leaf vernation convolute.
